The Wolf and the Lamb
Once upon a time a Wolf was lapping at a spring on a hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but a Lamb just beginning to drink a little lower down. ‘There’s my supper,’ thought he, ‘if only I can find some excuse to seize it.’ Then he called out to the Lamb, ‘How dare you muddle the water from which I am drinking?’
‘Nay, master, nay,’ said Lambikin; ‘if the water be muddy up there, I cannot be the cause of it, for it runs down from you to me.’
‘Well, then,’ said the Wolf, ‘why did you call me bad names this time last year?’
‘That cannot be,’ said the Lamb; ‘I am only six months old.’
‘I don’t care,’ snarled the Wolf; ‘if it was not you it was your father;’ and with that he rushed upon the poor little Lamb and A WARRA WARRA WARRA WARRA her all up. But before she died she gasped out .’Any excuse will serve a tyrant.’
<<狼和小羊>>
狼來到小溪邊，看見小羊在那兒喝水。
狼想吃小羊，就故意找碴兒，說：“你把我喝的水弄髒了!你安地什麼心?”
小羊吃了一驚，溫和地說：“我怎麼會把您喝的水弄髒呢?您站在上游，水是從您那兒流到我這兒來的，不是從我這兒流到您那兒去的。”
狼氣沖沖地說：“就算這樣吧，你總是個壞傢伙!我聽說，去年你在背地裏說我的壞話!”
可憐的小羊喊道：“啊，親愛的狼先生，那是不可能的，去年我還沒有生下來哪!”
狼不想再爭辯了，齜着牙，逼近小羊，大聲嚷道：“你這個小壞蛋!說我壞話的不是你就是你爸爸，反正都一樣。”說着就往小羊身上撲去。
簡單的英語寓言小故事：樹和斧子A Woodman came into a forest to ask the Trees to give him a handle for Ax. It seemed so modest a request that the principal tree at once agreed to it, and it was settled among them that the plain, homely Ash should furnish what was wanted.
No sooner had the Woodman fitted the staff to his purpose ,then he began laying about him on all ing the whole matter too late, whispered to the Cedar: "the first concession has lost all ;if we has not a sacrificed our humble neighbor, we might have yet stood for ages ourselves."
有一個樵夫來到森林裏，要求樹給他一跟斧柄，看來他的請求非常謙虛，立刻得到了樹的首領的同意。他們決定由平凡而樸素的白楊樹來提供所需要的`東西。
樵夫剛按好斧柄，就開始到處亂砍，森林裏最高的樹都砍倒了，樹林現在察覺大勢已去，就小聲對衫樹說："第一次的讓步已失去了一切，如果我們不犧牲我們的小小的鄰居，我們自己還可以活無數年呢。"

經典英文小故事：天帝賜酒One day, deities1 from various places came to pay homage2 to the Emperor of Heaven.
The emperor gave his minister in charge of wine cups the following order: "Register the names of the deities first, then bestow3 wine upon them."
The minister registered the names of the deities on bamboo slips, and prepared to bestow wine. But he kept on working for 3, 000 years and had not finished the registration4 yet.
The emperor inquired: "Why haven't you finished registering?"
The minister reported: "All the deities have brought their sedan-chair carriers."
The emperor ordered: "Then register the sedan-chair carriers as well."
7, 000 years passed and the registration was still not done.
When the emperor inquired again, the minister had no way out but reported: "The sedan-chair carriers of the deities have brought their own carriers too."
So the wine was not bestowed5 after all.
The Emperor of Heaven remained silent for a long time and then heaved a deep sigh.
一天，各路神仙都來朝拜天帝。
天帝命令司筋大臣說:“先把他們的名字登記好，再賜給他們酒喝。”
司筋大臣拿着竹簡，登記各路神仙的姓名，準備賜酒，可是登記了三千年，還沒登記完。
天帝查問:“你爲什麼還沒有登記完?"
司筋大臣報告說:“各路神仙都帶着轎伕。”
天帝下令:“轎伕，也登記上吧!”
結果，又登記了七千年，還是沒有登記完。
當天帝再次查問的時候，司筋大臣無可奈何地報告說:“各路神仙的轎伕，又都帶着自己的轎伕啊!”
賜酒一事，最終還是沒有成功。
天帝沉默了半天，長長地嘆息了一聲。
