In the Northern Street of Paris, there sat an old man with white hair and a stick. He was blind, and nobody wanted to help him. One day a noble man came to this street and saw the old man with blind eyes, he asked, “Excuse me, don’t you bother? But, I just want to ask how much did you get today this morning?” “Oh! I didn’t get anything!” cried the old man in a sad tune, and then the noble man realized that next to the old man was a cardboard paper, and on were the word, “I can’t see anything!” and also realized that the people who passed this place will just look at the paper, smiled; and went away to do their own things. Since this man was a noble man, he knew what to do to make everybody happy.

And so he took all the money he had in him which was $12, and placed it in a bowl near him; and then he took out his pen which he had in his hand all along, and wrote the some words in front of the words that are already on; and these were the words, “The spring has come, but;” these words, and then went away. In the evening, the noble man came visiting this place again, he saw the old man sitting down as usual and asked him, “Well how much did you get this afternoon then?”

The old man smiled, “Noble man, I don’t know what you did but the people that gave me money this afternoon were so many that even god couldn’t count them!” and then the noble looked at the bowl with money and stroked his beard while he smiled.

“The spring has come, but I can’t see anything!” these words could be so much use, it might produce that the noble man in this story has technology, which made the poor blind man happy.

Although this noble man which we are talking about helped the old man, but he also remembered what the other people did. People asked him many other questions, and the noble man of course answered them all. Some of the people in town that didn’t want to help the blinded old man were locked up in jail for their cruelty instead of kindness.

The moral of this story is, when you see somebody that is in need, go and help them and you will feel better in the end.

In China, there are many families send their kids to study abroad, because foreign education is believed to have advantages over our country’s, so when the overseas returnees come to job hunting, they are often being considered first. Does it mean overseas returnees superior to us? Actually, I don’t think so.

First, the ones who study abroad are no longer for the only purpose-study, they are often born in a rich family, so besides study, they want to travel more. What’s more, in a free circumstance, they may lose themselves, indulging in the pub. Without hard work, they gain less knowledge, who says they know more than us.

Second, overseas returnees are less familiar with our market. The market is very important for business, the long term’s living in the foreign country makes overseas returnees hard to adapt to the native market, they know more about the foreign market. So we also have advantages over them, we are familiar with our country’s circumstance, we can make the decision quickly.

Therefore, I think those overseas returnees should not be regarded as superior to us. Employers should treat all the students equally, giving them the fair chance, the one who performs better, the one who wins.

Discipline(紀律)

Some people say that the best way to raise children is to them to be independent thinkers. Other people disagree and say that children need to be taught discipline in order to let them successful. In other word, children should either be granted(假定) freedom, or be given more discipline. I tend to agree with a policy of firm(穩固的) discipline.

The people whoseview places emphasis(重點) on encouraging children to think freely hope the child will be able to understand and govern(管理) the world. The child is considered as an “equal” to the adult. This view has been popular in the western countries, where corporal(身體的) punishment of children is now illegal. The concept(觀念) of “rights” for children is part of a wider political(政治上的) movement that also asserts(聲稱) right for women, animals and environment.

The pro-discipline view is based on the commonsensical(常識) observation(觀察) that, if left unchecked(沒有管束的),children behave stupidly and even run amok(殺人狂地, 狂亂的). Disciplinarians(嚴格的人) believe that physical(肉體的) constrains(強迫) and punishments imposed(強加於) by adult teach the child that his selfishness, laziness and running wild will lead him to a bad life. The child then gains wisdom(明智) through lessons. Constraints(約束) and punishments range from a simple withdrawing(離開) of

a “ privilege(特權)” such as pocket money, limited time for watching TV, to a remark(談論) of “beating”. Yet the discipline does not have to be harsh(粗糙的). Sanctions(打破國際制裁的個人) are only applied(實用的) if the child behaves stupidly.

Discipline has many areas of practical(實踐的), one of the most important of which is education. The Chinese proverb says, “ the strict teacher can cultivate(培養) an outstanding(傑出的) student.” Some adults have observed(注意到) that strict schools often achieve good academic(大學生, 大學的) accomplishment(成就). Likewise(同樣地), people reckon(計算) that disciplined children are likely to become productive persons.

It is obvious to me that an uncontrolled child who does dangerous matters can cause injury(損害) to himself and to others. And many violent teenagers appear to behave no fear of punishment for illegal action. So parents should not give children a free hand, especially when they can’t tell right from wrong. Adults have a serious duty of supervising(監督) the young.

Discipline is justified because adults are generally wiser than children. Discipline in childhood fosters(養育) the child for the hardship of his future life.

People often say we have entered the electronic age. Computers have become the center of life. No one can live and work without computers. In the future, everyone can work and study at home before a PC. There won't be piles of files. Instead, a disc is OK enough.

With the appearance of printers, the pen becomes less useful than before. And since the computer was created, paper is also gradually giving way to the screen, which can show lively moving things from different sides in the same picture. It is true that with the developmem of science, such products as computers and printers will be the major tools in our future life and work. But the traditional tools will also exist for a long time to supplement the function of the modern ones. At least, we still need pens to sign with and paper to sign on.

Many young people in China today prefer Western holidays to traditional Chinese festivals. Christmas is now celebrated by the younger generation all over China, and it has become especially popular as a romantic holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends or young married couples. Valentine's Day is also extremely popular, and even Halloween is being celebrated now.

This phenomenon has actually developed quite naturally in recent decades due to our educational system's focus on English study and therefore on English-speaking cultures. To many students, Western culture has become a symbol of self-expression and freedom from restraint. Celebrating Western holidays has become a way for students to express their love of something different from traditional Chinese culture, and to have fun together with their own generation.

In my opinion, it's fine for students learning English and studying English-speaking cultures to celebrate Western holidays with their teachers and classmates. However, the way I see it, unless the young people later go abroad to live in those cultures, there is no reason for them to continue to celebrate them. We Chinese should hold on to our traditional festivals, the festivals which we have celebrated for centuries.
