the most common criticisms of sport hunting are that it is cruel and inhumane, that it violates the rights of the animals, that it entails disobedience to rules of conduct that all who exhibit genuine respect for nature must observe, that it upsets ecological balances and can lead to endangerment of some game species, and that hunting is an expression of mindless aggression and violence and thus perpetuates human barbarism.

“No air conditioning? How can you sleep?”a friend asks, horrified.I‘ve just revealed that my family has decided to shut the air conditioner off and trim our electric bill.

“Nobody opens a window, day or night,”warns another friend, whose windows have been painted shut for a decade.“This is the ‘‘s not safe.”

On this first night of our cost-cutting adventure,it‘s on1y 85 ‘re not going to suffer, but the three kids gumble anyway. They‘ve grown up in 72-degree comfort, insulated from the world outside.

“How do you open these windows?” my husband ling the metal tabs, he finally releases one. A potpourri of bug decorates the sill. As we spring the windows one by one, the night noises howl outside and in.“It‘s too hot to sleep,”my 13-year-old daughter moans.

“I‘m about to die from this heat,”her brother hollers down the hal1.“Just try it tonigt,”I tell them.

In truth I‘m too tired to argue for long.I‘m exhausted after attending Grandma‘s estate auction.I toted home her oval tin bathtub and the chair I once stood on like a big shot behind the counter of her store, sacking Tootsie Rolls and rolling pennies.

My face is sweaty, but I lie quietly listening to the cricket choirs outside theat remind me of childhood,The neighbor‘s dog ably a trespassing ‘s been years since I‘ve taken the time to really listen to the night.

I think about Grandma, who lived to 92 and still supervised Mom‘s gardening until just a few weeks before she died.

And then,I‘m back there at the house in the summer heat of my childhood.

I move my pi11ow to the foot of Grandma‘s bed and angle my face toward the open window.I flip the pillow, hunting for the cooler side.

Grandma sees me thrashing.“If you‘11 just watch for the breeze,”she says,“you‘11 cool off and fall asleep.”

She cranks up the Venetian blinds.I stare at the filmy white curtain, willing it to flutter.

Lying stil1, waiting, I suddenly notice the life outside the window. The bug chorus shouts“Ajooga!Ajooga!”Neighbors, porch-sitting late, speak in hazy words with sanded edges that soothe me.

“Keep watching for the breeze,”Grandma says softly, and I“uhliuh”in reply. June bugs ping the screen. Three blocks away the Frisco train

rumbles across Roosevelt Avenue.

I catch the scent of fresh grass clippings. Then I hear something I can‘t decode--perhaps a tree branch raking asphalt shingles on the store roof

next door.

Sleepy-eye now,I focus on the flutters …

“MOM,DID Y0U HEAR THAT?”my seven-year-o1d bluts.“I think it was an owl family.”

“Probably” I tell him.“Just keep listening…”

Without the droning air condition, the house is oddly peaceful, and the unfilter night noises seem close enough to touch.

I hope I‘m awake tonight when the first breeze sneaks in.

TV commercial ads

I think TV commercial ads have both advantages and disadvantage. To begin with, they are good because they can popularize the latest products. For example, if some people want to buy a digital camera, but they have no idea about which brand is the best and where to buy it. They may just find out relevant information about it by watching TV ads. But , of course, TV commercial ads are

bad ,because some of them are misleading. For example, some ad about an English training course says “Come and join us. You can learn how to speak English within 40 minutes.”

To conclude, people should be very much careful about TV commercial ads.

My dormitory room is on the second floor.

It is small and crowded. The dark green walls and the dirty white ceiling make the room seem dark, and thus even smaller than it is, As youwalk into the room, you are stopped short by my bed which fills half of the room. The two large windows over the bed are hidden by heavy dark gold drapes.

Against the wall on your left, pushed into a corner behind the head of the bed, is a large bookcase which is crammed with papers, books, and knick-knacks, Wedged in between the bookcase and the wall opposite the bed is a small grey metal desk. It has a brown wooden chair which seems to fill the left end of the fed under the desk is a wooden wastepaper basket overflowing with paper and debris. The wall above the bookcase and desk is completely taken up with two small posters. On the right hand of the room is a narrow closet with clothes, shoes, hats, tennis racquets, and boxes bulging out of its sliding doors. Everytime I walk out of the door, I think, Now I know what it is like to live in a closet. at it is like to live in a it is like to live in a closet.

At night, the stars glittering in the deep sky, and in the room, I looked at the flashing pictures of the TV. The ear is surrounded by a familiar melody: "the heart of gratitude, thanks to the fate..."

Those full of confidence to the life of the deaf TV, with their hands and sing the rhythm out of the beautiful curve in the glittering stage, in the silent world, the interpretation of the true meaning of Thanksgiving, the interpretation for the fate, to the world, for all the thanksgiving. These deaf mutes' life stage is incomplete, but they can still draw the grateful heart on the chest with their hands that are full of life, and still can face their lives with a sincere smile, and thank them for their lives. And what we got was a sound body, and I was confused about the question of "what to be grateful".

In the mind, the disorderly thoughts are hidden with the trace of transparency, and the feelings of gratitude are precipitated. The emotion of the wind is the trace of transparency on a layer of memory, such as the cherry blossoms swaying like a pilgrimage.

Fate is fair, just as "when fate closes a window for you, he is opening the other door for you." Everyone has the same happiness. But they often ignore their happiness, and exaggerate the happiness of others. Since birth, fate has given us the biggest life chip -- survival, and everything is fate. As a matter of fact, we have come to the world naked, nothing. However, the fate of our hard-earned design blueprint of life, we should not only life, work hard? Shouldn't we be thankful for fate?

Thanks to the world there is a memory of the film, carrying our life silently is folded in our life in the film but the Qie box, the total figure in my life in the twinkling stars...... Life is parents give us the most love and most do not care about the return of the people; friends in life to share happiness with you, share the sorrow of the people; the stranger is in the life the most easily pass, but affect your every twinkle and smile very heavy people. They are the most selfless, the most sincere, the most simple love together into a great power, covering our hearts, care of it, peaceful and harmonious... The world has built a protective wall of love for us with love and protected us. Should we cherish ourselves better and improve ourselves? Shouldn't we be thankful for the world?

By the mid-nineteenth century, the term icebox had entered the American language, but ice was still only beginning to affect the diet of ordinary citizens in the United States. The ice trade grew with the growth of cities. Ice was used in hotels, taverns, and hospitals, and by some forward-looking city dealers in fresh meat, fresh fish, and butter. After the Civil War,as ice was used to refrigerate freight cars, it also came into household use. Even before 1880,half of the ice sold in New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, and one-third of that sold in Boston and Chicago, went to families for their own use. This had become possible because a new household convenience, the icebox, a precursor of the modern refrigerator, had been invented.

Making an efficient icebox was not as easy as we might now suppose. In the early nineteenth century, the knowledge of the physics of heat, which was essential to a science of refrigeration, was rudimentary. The commonsense notion that the best icebox was one that prevented the ice from melting was of course mistaken, for it was the melting of the ice that performed the cooling. Nevertheless, early efforts to economize ice included wrapping up the ice in blankets, which kept the ice from doing its job. Not until near the end of the nineteenth century did inventors achieve the delicate balance of insulation and circulation needed for an efficient icebox.
