這種出題思路彷彿是編詞典似的，先列出某一詞條，然後進行釋義，前後兩部分構成被解釋和解釋的關係。只要順着釋義部分的思路，即可推斷出被解釋的對象。
例 Ⅰ:
The benedictory address, as it has developed in American colleges and universities over the years, has become a very strict form, a literary ---------- that permits very little ---------- .
(A) text ... clarity
(B) work ... tradition
(C) genre ... deviation
(D) oration ... grandiloquence
(E) achievement ... rigidity

在本題中，"strict form"構成被解釋的對象，其後的同位語及定語從句分別對form的 strict作複述式的解釋。作爲同位語，空格Ⅰ應是form的同義詞，則(C) genre最爲接近。定語從句中的複述採用了常見的雙重否定法。little爲第一重否定，故空格Ⅱ應是strict的反義詞，則(C) deviation爲正確。
