  錄音原文

Text 1

W:Are you interested in math?

M:Yes, but I find it difficult.

Text 2

M:I’m expecting to go abroad shortly. So I am very anxious to learn enough English to get along by myself.

W:It’s awful to visit a foreign country without being able to use the language.

Text 3

W:Mr. Wang’s briefing seemed to go on forever. I was hardly able to stay awake.

M:How could you sleep through that? It is very important for the work we are going to carry out.

Text 4

M:Do you know the way to the Smith’s?

W:Yes, come with me and I will show you.

Text 5

W:If only I hadn’t been so rude, I probably would have been invited to the professor’s house.

M:How were you so rude to her?

W:Well, I asked her too many personal questions when I first met her.

M:Well, nobody likes a busybody.

Text 6

M:Hey, so how did you and David meet?

W: Oh, we’ve been friends since school. You?

M: Since university. We were roommates.

W: So, what do you do now? I mean, do you work, or study?

M: I’m thinking of becoming a chef.

W: Well dinner tonight was amazing. You’re a really good cook.

M: Thank you. I appreciate good food. What do you do?

W: I will graduate in June. I’m thinking of opening a clothing shop of my own. I’m interested in fashion.

M: That’s a great idea. You can enjoy yourself in your work. Wish you success.

W: Thank you. You, too.

Text 7

M:Before making out a plan for sightseeing trips for you, I’ll be glad to know if you have anything special in mind that you would like to see.

W:Well, as a matter of fact, we were discussing this question last night. We all spoke of the Great Wall. We wouldn’t leave China without seeing that if it was possible. How far is it from here?

M:Only about 80 kilometers. Just an hour and a half’s trip by car. We’ll put down the Great Wall then.

W:Good. And we talked a lot about the Summer Palace. We would like to see that, too.

M:All right, the Summer Palace. Well, and there are a number of places that I think you will find interesting, the Temple of Heaven, the Palace Museum and Ming Tombs.

Text 8

W:Hi, George, what have you been doing lately? I haven’t seen you around much. Where have you been?

M:Oh, I was playing the piano for a group of Germany. I just got back.

W:It must be exciting playing the piano and traveling all the time.

M:Well, playing the piano was great, but the traveling was no fun. I have just been to my manager and he has offered me a job, playing on the coast for the summer.

W:At a seaside town?

M:Yes, but I don’t think I am going to take it.

W:Why not? Low payment?

M:No, it’s not bad. The money is good, about two hundred dollars a week. It’s just that we will work in the hotel playing for the tourists. And they will just want a same old music over and over to dance to. I will get so bored. It’s not like playing the music. It’s like being a machine.

W:I wouldn’t mind being a machine for that money.

Text 9

W:Did you see the late night film on television yesterday?

M:The one on Channel 8?

W:No, on Channel 5. It was about a couple who hitchhiked across the Sahara desert.

M:No, I didn’t. Was it good?

W: Well, it was quite good, I suppose, but all those miles of sand did get a bit boring after a while. I think I prefer horror films to travel stories or love stories.

M:I went out for a meal with my friends, and they took me to a Greek restaurant.

W:Sounds unusual! What was the food like?

M:Actually, I quite liked it.

W:I’m not keen on foreign food myself. I’d rather stick to roast beef or just fish and chips.

M:Yes. I notice you always eat chips! Don’t you ever get sick of chips?

W:No, never. In fact, I’d rather eat chips than bread.

M:Well, I prefer trying new food to eating the same old things day after day.

W:I see, so you won’t be coming to the cafe at lunch time with me, then. You’d rather eat on your own, right?

M:Well...
