什麼時候用what引導定語從句
what 不是關係詞，所以它不能引導定語從句。但值得注意的是：what 有時相當於“名詞(先行詞)+關係代詞”。關係代詞有主語、賓語、定語之分。一般who做主語或賓語whom作爲賓語，whose作爲定語(whom，whose不可省略)。關係代詞在從句中作主語，賓語，定語等，關係副詞在從句中作地點狀語(where)時間狀語(when)，原因狀語(why)。例如：
1、他把一切都給了我。
正：He gave me what he had.
正：He gave me everything that he had.
2、這就是你要的東西。
正：This is what you want.
正：This is the thing that you want.
以上實例告訴，what 有時相當於“先行詞+關係代詞”，同時這也告訴，這樣用的 what 前不能再有先行詞(即what 不能引導定語從句)。
定語從句what和which的區別
what不可以用在定語從句中，定語從句中關係代詞用that和which，兩者用法上的區別主要爲：
可以指人，也可以指物;which只能指物
2.當先行詞是不定代詞all, something, anything, everything, none, the one等時，只能用that
如： Is there anything that I can do for you?
3.先行詞前有形容詞的'最高修飾時，要用that
如： This is the best film that I have ever seen for years.
4.先行詞前有序數詞修飾時，要用that
如： This is the fifth book that I have ever written.
5.先行詞前有形容詞only, very, few, little等修飾時，要用that
如： She was the only person that was invited to the palace.
6.先行詞既指人，又指物時，只能用that
7.在非限制性定語從句中，只能用which
如： She made great progress and won a prize, which gave us a surprise.
8.在介詞+關係代詞引導的定語從句中，必須用which
如： This is the knife with which John hurt somebody.
9.當先行詞本身是that的時候，要用which
如： The predicate is that which is said of the subject.
