一.美國音樂教育簡介：
在美國，開設音樂專業的學校可以分爲2類，第一類是專業性極強的音樂學校，這類音樂學校是專門爲那些將來以音樂爲職業目標的學生來設置的。最爲著名的代表就是茱莉亞音樂學校，曼哈頓音樂學院，柯蒂斯音樂學校、新英格蘭音樂學校等。但是，這類音樂學院每一年的招生人數非常少，競爭也非常激烈。
第二類是綜合性大學下面的音樂學院。這類音樂學院在音樂方面的教育一點不比第一類的音樂學校差。雖然這類音樂學院是依託在大學之下，但是他們的音樂教育反而更爲出衆。

四. 音樂學院提供的研究生學位
MA(Master of Arts)與MM(Masterof Music)：
MM是藝術專業碩士，着重於表演,通常要求申請者在申請過程中提交作品集(pre-screening,portfolio)或參加表演面試(liveaudition)。
MA是文學碩士，注重學術研究以及創作。
五.音樂專業申請要求
★1、國際生都要求託福成績，iBT最好在80分以上。一些排名靠前的綜合大學，託福要求接近90分。如，威斯康辛麥迪遜大學iBT最低要求87.
★2、申請藝術類專業大多是不需要提供GRE成績的，但對於音樂教育，音樂理論等理論性較強的專業要求GRE;器樂類和聲樂類部分學校不要求GRE，更看重的是表演能力;但90%好的音樂學院的博士要求GRE，包括表演方向。GPA：3.0以上爲好。

到指定的網站進行音樂學院的申請並提交作品集，常用的網站有：slideroom, accepted等。Eg: Universityof Texas at Austin MM in Vocal Performance 的作品集提交方式：All prescreening materials should beuploaded through the Butler School ofMusic supplemental application. ★line:音樂學院總體來說申請截止日期都比較早，許多學校的deadline都集中在12.1前後，例如University ofTexas—Austin的網申提交和作品集提交截止日期都是12.1; University ofWisconsin—Madison截止日期是12.1。
六、美國音樂學院的所需費用
與其他專業相比，藝術類專業的學費都相對較高。音樂專業每一年的費用在10000美元-50000美元不等。總體來說，專門的音樂學院學費比較貴，綜合大學的下屬音樂學院相對學費便宜。比如Juilliard School學費大致在$32000 /年; NYU學費每年約$26,622($1,479/ credit)。
