羅密歐與朱麗葉，英文原名爲The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet，簡寫爲Romeo and Juliet，是英國劇作家莎士比亞著名的悲劇，因其知名度而常被誤稱爲莎翁四大悲劇之一(實爲麥克白、奧賽羅、李爾王及哈姆雷特)。但羅密歐與朱麗葉這個悲劇故事並不是莎士比亞的原創，而是改編自阿瑟·布盧克(Arthur Broke)1562年的小說《羅密歐與朱麗葉的悲劇歷史》(The Tragicall History of Romeus and Juliet)。

朱麗葉去找神父想辦法，神父給了她一種藥，服下去後就像死了一樣，但四十二小時後就會甦醒過來。神父答應她派人叫羅密歐，會很快挖開墓穴，讓她和羅密歐遠走高飛。朱麗葉依計行事，在婚禮的頭天晚上服了藥，第二天婚禮自然就變成了葬禮。神父馬上派人去通知羅密歐。可是，羅密歐在神父的送信人到來之前已經知道了消息。他在半夜來到朱麗葉的墓穴旁，殺死了阻攔他的帕里斯伯爵，掘開了墓穴，他吻了一下朱麗葉之後，就掏出隨身帶來的毒藥一飲而盡，倒在朱麗葉身旁死去。等神父趕來時，羅密歐和帕里斯已經死了。這時，朱麗葉也醒過來了。人越來越多，神父還沒來得及顧及朱麗葉，就逃走了。朱麗葉見到死去的羅密歐，也不想獨活人間，她沒有找到毒藥，就拔出羅密歐的劍刺向自己，倒在羅密歐身上死去。兩家的父母都來了，神父向他們講述了羅密歐和朱麗葉的故事。兒女失去，兩家的父母才清醒過來，可是已經晚了。從此，兩家消除積怨，並在城中爲羅密歐和朱麗葉鑄了一座金像。
