一、首先要擴大閱讀的範圍
考試閱讀中前兩部分通常是實用性強的功能性短文，如菜單、產品說明、通知、住宿安排和廣告等，非常貼近西方的實際生活，但對我們國內絕大多數考生而言會很陌生。這就要求考生們爭取每天閱讀一定量的原版英文報刊、書籍，如time、 reader‘s digest等,尤其注意其中的各種各樣的廣告。並非要讀懂每一個字，或完全理解，只要能理解其中大至含義既可。
另一部分類閱讀中主要是關於歷史中的重要人物、事件和發明和科學現象、學科最新動向、地理現象以及社會發展、經濟狀況等。其中大部分文章選自國外人文類、經濟類和科學類的知名報紙、雜誌或各政府、組織的研究報告。如：new scientist、 financial times、 the economist、popular science、national geographic、scientific american 等。這些刊物在國內雖然不易看到，但考生們可以通過internet在網上進行閱讀，以熟悉它們的文風、常用的詞彙和句子結構。
二、要提高閱讀的速度
提高英語閱讀的速度，靠的不是一日之功，通常需要相當長一段時間的學習及訓練。加強英文基礎訓練、掌握必要的測試技巧和鄙棄一些壞習慣，都會有助於考生們閱讀文章是加快速度。
考試的閱讀部分，測試考生的閱讀速度和理解的精確度，考生們既不能爲了在1小時的時間內答完考題而單一求快，也不能爲了答題的準確性高而不得不放棄回答一些問題。
英語閱讀的速度可以通過加強自己快速閱讀的能力來提高。快速閱讀就是用掃描文章的方法對其結構有大致的瞭解，並把握其主旨。同時，在重點句子和詞彙上做出標記。這種方法對閱讀考試幫助極大，平時可多加練習。考生們應鄙棄逐詞閱讀的陋習，逐詞閱讀不但速度太慢，而且容易引起誤解。而學會詞彙組合閱讀。
另外，爲了提高閱讀的速度還要養成良好的閱讀習慣，不能邊看邊用嘴跟着讀，眼、嘴並用必會降低讀速;一旦發現生詞(這種情況絕大多數考生都肯定要遇到)，先不要緊張，要通過英語構詞法(前綴、詞根和後綴)來分析推測詞義，或結合上下文、前後詞語去猜測，如果根據上下文及前後詞語還是無法確切瞭解其真正含義，你可以再看一下這個詞對整個句子所構成的影響是肯定的，還是否定的，實際上這對你理解作者的意圖已足夠了，實在不行就做上記號，將來看一看是否影響答題，如無影響就堅決忽略，切記不要戀戰。

Don't judge a life by one difficult season.
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to not judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no - it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed, he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but one season in the tree's life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are - and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life - can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall. Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.
一棵樹的四季
不要只在某人某段艱難的.歲月裏去判斷他的一生。
從前，一個父親有4個兒子。他希望兒子們能學會凡事勿匆下結論，於是輪番派遣他們到很遠的地方去尋一棵梨樹。
大兒子是冬天去的，二兒子春天啓程，老三去時已是炎熱的夏季，老麼於金秋時節踏上了征程。
待他們全都尋樹歸來以後，父親把他們叫到一起，聽他們各自描述自己的所見。
大兒子數落說大樹枝彎幹斜，很難看。二兒子連忙否認，說樹上發滿嫩綠的新芽，生機盎然。
老三不同意了，樹上明明開滿鮮花，吐露芬芳，漂亮極了。
他們的說法實在讓老麼啞然，枝頭上墜滿的難道不是累累果實，在彰顯生機與收穫嗎?
父親解釋說，兒子們的說法都沒錯，因爲他們看到的是大樹一年四個季節裏的不同情景。
他告訴兒子們說，不能以一季來判斷樹，更不能以一時來判斷人，因爲人之本質——源自他們喜、樂、愛的根本——只有在其生之了結時，纔可蓋棺論定。
倘若你在冬季就已放棄，那無疑會錯過春季的生機、夏季的美麗和秋季的收益。勿爲一季的痛苦而破壞了所有的歡樂。
