在英語專八考試的作文評閱中，一般將作文分爲五個等級：
第五級：優秀作文(effective communication with accuracies) 這樣的作丈觀點清楚，結構合理，內容充實，語言運用得體，基本沒有語言錯誤。得分在18-20分。
第四級：良好作文(good communication with few inaccuracies) 這樣的作文觀點明確，結構合理，內容充實，語言運用較得體，稍有語言錯誤。得分在15-17分。
第三級：尚可作文(passable communication with some inaccuracies) 這樣的作文觀點明確，結構完整，內容尚可，語言運用的.得體性一般，語言錯誤不少，影響到作文的理解。得分在14-12分。
第二級：問題作文(problematic communication with frequent inaccuracies) 這樣的作文觀點不甚明確，結構不完整，內容匱乏，語言得體性較差，語言錯誤較多，影響到作文的理解。得分在11-9分。
第一級：失敗作文(almost no communication)這樣的作文基本沒有達到寫作要求，幾乎無結構和內容可言，通篇充斥語言錯誤，無語言得體性可言，作文難以理解。得分在8-6分或以下。
最後寫作是要注意以下幾點：
1. 注意概述與評論的銜接，銜接不當可能會失分。
2. 注意概述與評論的比例要適當，概述部分所佔比例不得多於1/3， 否則比例不當會扣很多分。
3. 概述部分可以適當用原文的部分詞語，但不可全部照抄原文，否則會扣分。
